Dr. Jena Questen
Did you get to see the Geomagnetic storm that has been hitting us the last 3 days? I can’t seem to see it from where we are, but there are so many awesome pictures of the Northern Lights right down here in Colorado. Amazing! I don’t love how it’s interfering with our computers and internet at work, but it sure is incredible to see the pictures of how amazing the sky looked at night. Hope you get to see it!
Today I am grateful for dogs. Yesterday at work I had so many conversations with so many people who love their dogs so much, it’s a beautiful thing. So many people who share with me how their dogs have helped them through some of the toughest moments of their lives, how their dogs bring them so much joy, and how empty the bed feels when the dog can no longer get up there. I am grateful for dogs. My dogs, all dogs. I am grateful for how much happiness they bring to us, and they ask so little in return. I am not so sure I would want to live in a world that didn’t have dogs.
Or cats. I also love cats and I see how much joy they also bring to people. Their little tiny delicate bodies which somehow make themselves so much bigger in your life, with their huge personalities. Yet beneath all that bravado is a little animal who actually only weighs about 9 pounds and could be crushed in an instant by so many things. I am grateful for the little kitties and how strong and brave and powerful they can present themselves, while in reality, they are small delicate creatures who need our protection no matter how tough they like to pretend they are!
Do you feel the same way about dogs? Cats? Horses? I am grateful for all of the animals in the world.
The next few days are going to be extra busy for me, because it’s the high school play! I am so excited to see all the hard work the kids have put in after school the last few weeks. The play was almost cancelled after the school shooting in September, but the kids argued back, won their case, and now we have a play although they had very little time to prepare for it. I am proud of the kids for standing up. And I am looking forward to being a part of it. I always volunteer for the plays, taking tickets, helping with food for the kids, setting up the lobby and taking it all day after the shows. It’s a great, fun time to chat with other parents, see who my kid is hanging out with, and feel good about contributing something that hopefully helps make a difference in the lives of these kids as they try to navigate the complicated world of high school and growing up. It always brings me a lot of joy, although it’s exhausting. I am grateful for the opportunity. If you like theater I encourage you to check it out. The show is called Play On! It will be tonight at 7, tomorrow at 7, Saturday at 2 and at 7pm.
I am also grateful we already got our first signup for Pet Pictures with Santa! I feel like we are ahead of the game for being organized for our next event, and I am grateful to my great team for helping make that happen. The sign up is here https://www.resqranch.org/pet-pics-with-santa-signup
Fish update, the koi Candy Corn and Sanke are fitting in swimmingly, still, and I swear CandyCorn has gained weight even though they have been here less than a week. I love cats, dogs, and horses, but I really do love fish too. They are amazing to watch, if you just take the time to really see them. The way they are friends to each other. The way they respect each other. The joy they show from having a new family to engage with. There is a lot going on with those little ones. Just because they don’t have eyelids does not mean they do not have so many emotions. I am grateful I am able to see and appreciate them. And no I am not some crazy, there are plenty of books and research to support what I am saying. My favorite is a book called What a Fish Knows. I encourage all animal lovers to check out that book.
In the meantime, remember, life is happening for you, not to you. You are a river flowing in the current of life, and if you didn’t have a reason to be here, you would not have woken up today. Trust that all things are unfolding for you, just as they should. So don’t be too hard on yourself, forgive yourself for past mistakes, and embrace this new day. Make it the best one ever. I am glad you are here, you Animal Loving Angel. Let’s go out and make the world a better place today, for the animals, and each other.
