Dr. Jena Questen

Do you ever have those times when you are not really sure why you are not in the best mood, but someone anyway, it’s true? That happened to me yesterday. It’s the weekend and I have the whole day ahead of me, with beautiful weather, but still I was feeling down. Why don’t I have more YouTube subscribers yet? Why isn’t anything selling in my Shopify store yet? Why am I not making the progress that I think I should be making considering all the time, money, and energy my team and I put into all of these things?

But I think it was more the heavy feelings that came along with being with the other theater moms all weekend. I was looking forward to a fun time catching up and clowning around a little with all of them, which we did some. But all of our conversations were clouded with the realization our kids are about to leave high school, and our lives are all about to change dramatically, and we are all wrestling with the meaning of all that. Do you ever have moments like that?

But the weather was gorgeous and the horses were eager to enjoy it with us, too. So fortunately I was able to spend some time with both Natalia and Cesar, which was a lot of fun and both of them did very well.

Today I am grateful for the camaraderie I share with the other theater moms, that I got to spend quality time with the horses yesterday, that Natalia seems to be progressing in her training, and Cesar is relearning to trust us again. I am grateful I got to see the moon this morning. I could see the whole moon, although it was 90% black and then a thin sliver of light along one edge. It was really beautiful and gave me a moment to contemplate all of the people on the other side of the earth right now enjoying their day, and the sunshine, and maybe playing at the beach in the sunlight. I am grateful I woke up this morning to a clean kitchen that my daughter stayed up late to do. I am grateful I woke up and get to try again. And I am grateful I woke up to a healthy household, no vomiting, diarrhea, it’s warm, we have water and electricity, and nothing is damaged (we do have a puppy in the house so those might be a bigger deal for us than you!). I am grateful I get to be on Great Day Colorado this Friday, I hope you will tune in! My fish are smacking at the surface of the water begging for breakfast. I can’t possibly explain how cute I think they are and how happy and grateful I am to have them, and to be able to really see them for who they are.

Today is the start of the last full week of November before Thanksgiving. By now I am sure you have your plans for Thanksgiving all worked out. I hope you get to spend the day with people you love, and who love you. And if you can’t be with them, I hope you at least get to speak to them, because although we should have gratitude every day, this one day is the day specifically for having gratitude, and that is a beautiful thing which brings more joy and peace into the world. And if you choose to have turkey, I just hope and pray that you at least take a moment, to thank that animal for giving up its life for you, so that you could enjoy your meal in the way most meaningful for you. To all the turkeys in the world I send my love and prayers, that their experience was not too terrible, from living in confinement, to shipping to the ‘processing’ plant where they face fear and pain. I send them all love today. For we are all going to die someday, I just hope and wish for it to be as peaceful and painless as possible. That is all any of us can wish for. But in the meantime, if you are breathing, it’s time to get up and get going! The world needs you or you wouldn’t be here! So smile, rejoice you get another chance to make the world a better place, and hop to it! Be kind to yourself today dear friends, and take comfort in and be kind to animals today, like I know you will. And if there is anything I can ever do for you, please let me know, I am here for you.

Have a blessed day you Animal Loving Angel!
