Dr. Jena Questen
What is so important about a horse's 3rd birthday, is that it is the time when they are not quite full grown, but almost, like a teenager, who is considered possibly at their peak physical abilities for the rest of their lives. Imagine Olympic athletes who are often in their teens when they start. For a horse example, the Kentucky Derby is one of the biggest feats a horse can ever accomplish, and it is a race exclusively for 3 year old horses. It is a time when most people expect a horse to be close to, or nearly by now fully trained, for whatever it's job might be in it's life. Of course, others think this is still too young and they should wait to be ridden until full maturity at about 4 years of age. What do you think?
Today I am grateful I woke up, I am grateful the Girls Gone Wild Mustang Birthday Party was successful, and is now behind us. I am grateful for the people who came out for the party and helped us celebrate Chilli and Natalia turning 3 years old. I am grateful for the people who came out and helped us prepare for the event (although my back aches from 3 days of intense barn cleaning to prepare). I am grateful for Tori bringing down the stunningly beautiful carriage he restored for us and that I am looking forward to training a horse to pull. And I am grateful for Kiki with her Crafty Chassis truck who came out and helped us decorate horseshoes together outside. I think that was the most fun part of the event, just sitting around a table, outside, full of beads and feathers and bobbles, with a beautiful view and horses right in front of us. As you can imagine, it’s hard for me to sit still, so this was a good one especially for me! It was a wonderful afternoon of celebrating friends and enjoying the outdoors. I am deeply grateful to all who came, and helped us celebrate those two little special wild Mustangs, because who knows what fate they might have had, had we not been lucky enough to rescue them from their situation in the first place. They both loved the vegan cake we got them. I think the video of it should be super cute when it comes out soon!
So what about you, what are you looking forward to today, You Animal Loving Angel? Is there something special happening in your world? I sure hope so. The world is so full of bad news and tragedies, we must focus on what is good, and right, and kind, to keep us grounded in the face of so much strife and struggle all around us. That is why a horse birthday party matters, even when it seems a little silly. It is worth it.
Today I wish for you to have a wonderful day full of joy, laughter, ease, and free of pain. I hope you get to hug someone you love deeply, and that when you go to sleep tonight, you will feel a little, or a lot better, than you do, in this very moment. So be kind to yourself today, friends, and others, and thank you for being a part of this community of kindness, for the animals, for ourselves, for each other. Have the most wonderful day friends!
