Meet the horses at The ResqRanch and see their daily life up close. From Chili to Oliver, we are checking in on our animals and showing how off-track Thoroughbreds and other rescue horses thrive here. Since 1989, our sanctuary has focused on the care and rehabilitation of rescued horses. And for the real skinny on Aqueduct racecourse in New York and why it permanently closed despite the famous fact Secretariat raced there, leaving us with a whole in racing history. The fact is, it's not because of abuse or the decline of the racing industry, actually the opposite. All racing operations were moved to the nearby Belmont racecourse, with better facilities to care for the horses and the people who care for them. It's because the industry is doing good to regulate itself, and improve the welfare of the animals. That is something we can all feel good about.

Today I am grateful for all the off track Thoroughbreds we have been able to rescue, especially Emblaze who, after racing 51 times, seems to very much enjoy her new life of retirement.

I am grateful I woke up today, got to see the beautiful orange sunrise, and that all the animals are healthy and happy this morning.

I am grateful for my great team at work, who I know I can count on to stand by my side today, and do our best for our clients and their pets. It's a very special place to visit and work, and those who don't work there anymore, know and miss it, too. We miss you Diane! Happy retirement!

I am so super grateful my ankle is hurting less now that I know better how to alleviate the pressure off the tendon.

And I am grateful today for my precious little fish, who hear me get up early in the morning, before the rooster wakes up, and smack at the surface of the water, asking for attention. Fish have feelings too.

If you love animals with all of your heart, and truly see them for the magical, mystical creatures they are, so dependent at times, yet so strong in other ways, they ground us to this earth, and are a constant supply of unwavering love.
