Having just come back from the inaugural Wild Mustang Summit near Craig, Colorado, it was interesting to hear all of the different opinions of the people there.

Some felt strongly wild Mustangs, like Natalia in this thumbnail, should remain free and not be trained for human companionship.

Others were there, simply to demonstrate the value of the Mustang as a companion and riding horse, while yet others were there to demonstrate their training techniques and offer their horse training services.

Of all the trainers there, I noticed only one, with a master's degree in Anthrozoology, who actually understood the principles of proper animal training.

I left there with a lot to think about, from whether we should train/use ride horses at all, as there are many people, especially vegans, who don't agree with using animals in this way.

To whether or not it's ok to start training horses using traditional methods first, and then progress to riding without equipment, and whether that is ok, or should we train them without tack, in the first place?
